Lakeview Health Launches New Pain Recovery Service

The program is designed to help those suffering from chronic pain and addiction.

Jacksonville, FL, October 05, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Lakeview Health is launching a new therapeutic service for people suffering from chronic pain and addiction. Led by Adrian Blotner, M.D., FAPA, this program is designed to help people find healthy solutions to their chronic pain that are effective while they are recovering from substance use disorders. Dr. Blotner, who is board certified in both psychiatry and pain medicine and specializes in treatment of chronic pain, is leading this new service along with facilitating members of the medical and clinical team.

“We developed this new service to focus specifically on healthy pain recovery,” said Blotner. “The multidisciplinary services will emphasize specific therapeutic techniques to treat the chronic pain, stress, anxiety, mood, sleep and addiction. We will also be using safe, non-habit-forming medications to treat the nerves that transmit the pain. We will introduce the patients to healthy physical activity and are also incorporating a new process group that is focused on pain recovery and peer support.”

Twice per week patients will participate in this process group based on a comprehensive curriculum to address pain recovery by thoroughly exploring each patient’s chronic pain and addiction, identifying core issues, patterns and themes. The group will also provide patients a pain education curriculum along with skills development for meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques.

While the medical and clinical team focus on helping patients with their biological and emotional well-being, the wellness team focuses on improving physical mobility in a way that does not increase the chronic pain. This team is comprised of physical therapists, certified personal trainers, and our full-time physiologist and dietitian. Lakeview Health offers patients physical therapy at the on-campus Wellness Center Monday through Friday to focus on improving their physical mobility. A full-time registered dietitian works closely with patients and the dietary team to make sure they are fueling their body for recovery.

Addressing the emotional, behavioral, physical and biological aspects of chronic pain and addiction will help patients feel better in many aspects of their life. The pain recovery service facilitates the ability for those who suffer from chronic pain to break the dependency on habit-forming substances, and to improve their functioning in those life roles that they value most.
