Women in Comedy Combines Laughter and Empowerment at "A Love Letter to Myself" in D.C.

"A Love Letter to Myself" features a variety of comedy acts and a diverse group of powerful, female pillars in the D.C. community reading love letters on stage.

Washington, DC, February 10, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Women in Comedy is proud to present A Love Letter To Myself, a variety show sponsored by “Tagg Magazine” that honors the journey of a woman’s quest for self-love, acceptance and empowerment. The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the organization invites you to attend this special event at Woolly Mammoth Theatre on Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m.

“We are building a national movement, and 'A Love Letter to Myself' is our organization’s annual kickoff to celebrating women's comedic voices in supportive spaces,” says Heather Jane Moore, president of the D.C. chapter of Women in Comedy.

“A Love Letter to Myself” features a diverse group of powerful, female pillars in the D.C. community reading love letters to themselves on stage, including Brittany T. Oliver (Not Without Black Women), Susannah Wellford (Running Start) and Eboné F. Bell (“Tagg Magazine”). These inspiring stories will be intertwined with laugh-out-loud moments from an all-star comedy cast: Kasha Patel (DC Science Comedy), Baltimore-based comedy duo OLGA and the event’s headliner, internationally touring stand-up comic Carmen Lynch (CONAN).

Bell will read a letter to herself at the show. "I'm really looking forward to this event,” she says. “It's such a great concept and a great way to bring our community together. Personally, this will be quite a humbling experience. As I'm preparing myself, I'm learning so much."

This past year has shown the power of women’s voices from the Women’s March to the #metoo movement. Women In Comedy has been part of this groundswell. They were recently mentioned in the “The Washington Post” and PBS for their efforts to address sexual harassment and assault in the comedy community, including the sexual assault awareness hashtag, #NoLaughingMatter. Please join Women in Comedy in continuing the momentum in 2018.
