Texas Trust Credit Union Awards MISD Seniors $4,000 Scholarships

Arlington, TX, June 13, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Two Mansfield ISD graduating seniors have received $4,000 each in college scholarships from Texas Trust Credit Union.

Bailey Downing from Mansfield High School was awarded the Texas Trust Bill Hallmark Scholarship for Engineering. Ashley Owen from Legacy High School received the Rita Hamner Fine Arts Scholarship.

Downing was an all-star varsity basketball player her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She held a variety of leadership positions in various extracurricular activities and achieved the Girl Scouts Bronze and Silver awards. She was also an active member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Downing will pursue a degree in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas.

Owen, a resident of Arlington, ranked ninth in her class with a GPA of 4.0. She held numerous leadership positions in school clubs, was an active volunteer in community organizations, and received the Visual Arts Scholastic award in her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She was also on the National Scholastic Press Association Journalism Honor Roll. Owen will attend one of six universities where she has been accepted.

“Bailey and Ashley excelled in academics, sports, club participation, and volunteering. We hope the scholarships will help contribute to their continued success in college,” said Shelley Carlson, vice president of marketing for Texas Trust. “These scholarships are just a small way we can help Bailey and Ashley build a brighter future.”

The Rita Hamner and Bill Hallmark scholarships are named in honor of former Texas Trust board members. The Rita Hamner award is for students pursuing a degree in fine arts. The Bill Hallmark scholarship goes to students pursuing a degree in engineering.
