Rocky River-Based Global Freight Forwarder UWL Hosts First Customer Forum on Supply Chain Hot Topics

UWL Customer Forums bring cargo owners and logistics industry thought leaders together to tackle tariffs and prepare for new regulations.

Rocky River, OH, October 25, 2019 --(PR.com)-- To aide local business leaders navigating the choppy waters of international shipping, UWL, an industry-leading 3PL, launched the first of its UWL Customer Forums this month, gathering small groups of shippers with seasoned logistics experts to discuss industry hot topics and how to best prepare for them.

“In a world where global policies can change in the few seconds it takes to share a tweet, cargo owners have a bigger need than ever for timely information about important topics that could affect their supply chains," said UWL President Duncan Wright.

“As we've grown, we've begun holding roundtable-style UWL Customer Forums to bring our clients together with key subject matter experts so they can garner exclusive market insights that help them plan their logistics activities with confidence."

The first UWL Customer Forum was graciously hosted by UWL's parent company, World Group, at their newly renovated headquarters in Rocky River, OH. Over 25 representatives from a variety of local businesses attended the event, which was split into morning and afternoon sessions covering Section 301 Tariffs and the upcoming International Maritime Organization (IMO) low sulfur fuel regulations.

Key Takeaways
· There are Section 301 tariffs on nearly all imports from China and the tariffs affect almost every industry, from pet supplies to chemicals, retailers to wholesalers, representatives from companies across industries were present and shared their experiences.
· When it comes to mitigating tariff impact, strong relationships with suppliers in China can make all the difference if alternative sourcing isn't an option.
· The IMO’s new low sulfur fuel regulation, which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, requires that sulfur content in marine fuels be reduced from 3.5% to 0.5% globally. This will likely lead to increased bunker fuel charges next year because all ocean carriers must comply, and longer routes will be impacted the hardest.

The next forum will be held in Cleveland on April 2, 2020, and the company has plans to expand the program to additional cities in the future. To attend, please contact Micki Feckanin at Micki.Feckanin@shipUWL.com. Visit shipUWL.com to learn more.
