RTI and Lockheed Martin Extend Heterogeneous Real-Time Systems Support for National Instruments LabVIEW Graphical Development Environment

Integration enables LabVIEW users to exploit the high-performance, low-latency messaging capabilities of RTI Data Distribution Service.

Sunnyvale, CA, August 14, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Lockheed Martin’s Maritime Security & Ship Systems business and Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Real-Time Middleware Experts, today announced a joint effort to provide a high-performance, low-latency messaging middleware solution for National Instruments LabVIEW applications.

With Lockheed Martin’s Middleware Adapter to RTI Data Distribution Service, system designers and application developers using LabVIEW programming can incorporate low-latency messaging middleware into their designs as visual components ready to connect to other LabVIEW components. Users now can now generate code in LabVIEW from models to provide data acquisition and integration into networked applications, thereby extending the messaging capabilities of applications built using LabVIEW.

“RTI Data Distribution Service is an extremely popular and powerful messaging solution that will extend LabVIEW users’ ability to distribute data in real time over heterogeneous networks with LabVIEW,” said Darren Albert, staff engineer at Lockheed Martin.

Engineers can build real-time applications visually in LabVIEW by using predefined blocks representing high-level system operations and providing for data flow by configuring connector lines between those blocks. To take advantage of the RTI Data Distribution Service high-performance middleware and adapters, engineers also can construct their own custom blocks that can be integrated into the LabVIEW environment for use in building applications. This also enables engineers to leverage the power of the LabVIEW environment to display complex data graphically to users.

“Lockheed Martin, National Instruments and RTI have common customers in a variety of industries, ranging from big physics — such as astronomical telescopes — to aerospace and defense,” said Dr. Stan Schneider, founder and CEO of RTI. “We are very pleased that Lockheed Martin is enabling these RTI Data Distribution Service users to design their applications in LabVIEW.”

Both Lockheed Martin and RTI supplement the Middleware Adapter with professional services that focus on complex system development and integration. Development teams seeking to use RTI Data Distribution Service in the design and implementation of a real-time system can employ these services to architect their systems, rapidly create essential features and gain in-house expertise.

About Lockheed Martin’s Middleware Adapter
Lockheed Martin’s turnkey Middleware Adapters for LabVIEW are available for Windows XP platforms, LabVIEW Real-Time and National Instruments’ CompactRIO embedded targets. The adapters provide a true drag-and-drop middleware solution to tie LabVIEW applications to middleware infrastructures using Lockheed Martin’s proven technologies and extensive middleware expertise.

About RTI Data Distribution Service
RTI Data Distribution Service complies with the Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard. RTI Data Distribution Service is a high-performance messaging and data-caching solution for the development and integration of applications that require low latency, high throughput, high scalability, deterministic responses and minimal consumption of network, processor and memory resources. RTI Data Distribution Service meets the unique and demanding requirements of mission-critical real-time systems, including the ability to run in dynamic and autonomous environments and over unreliable or low-bandwidth networks such as wireless and satellite links.

About Lockheed Martin
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.

About National Instruments
National Instruments (www.ni.com) is transforming the way engineers and scientists design, prototype and deploy systems for measurement, automation and embedded applications. NI empowers customers with off-the-shelf software such as NI LabVIEW and modular cost-effective hardware, and sells to a broad base of more than 25,000 different companies worldwide, with no one customer representing more than 3 percent of revenue and no one industry representing more than 10 percent of revenue. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, NI has more than 4,800 employees and direct operations in nearly 40 countries. For the past nine years, FORTUNE magazine has named NI one of the 100 best companies to work for in America.

About RTI
Real-Time Innovations (RTI) provides high-performance infrastructure solutions for the development, deployment and integration of real-time, data-driven applications. RTI’s messaging, caching, Complex Event Processing (CEP) and visualization capabilities deliver dramatic improvements in latency, throughput and scalability while slashing cost of ownership. The company’s software and design expertise have been leveraged in a broad range of industries including defense, intelligence, simulation, industrial control, transportation, finance, medical and communications.
