)-- Joe Dumars Fieldhouse (www.joedumarsfieldhouse.com) will officially celebrate the grand opening of its new outdoor area, Friday, Aug. 22.
The evening kicks off with a member appreciation barbecue at 6 p.m. Doors open to the public at 8 p.m. Food, musical entertainment featuring 80s cover band Sometimes Y, and competition will be available for all to enjoy throughout the evening.
A full service bar and grill called Joe’s Backyard BBQ anchors the new outside area with a menu featuring classic grill fare with that Louisiana flare as well as classic menu items offered inside the Fieldhouse at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse Grille.
Patrons can enjoy their meals in front of a 20,000-pound fireplace with a plasma TV built in it, water fountain, or on the 2,000-square foot patio while sitting in the original Tiger Den chairs from when Comerica Park first opened.
Like the inside of the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse, the outside has plenty to satisfy one’s competitive spirit, including four lighted volleyball courts, horse show pits (both regular and the version with bean bags), and an 180’ x 80’ banked oval raceway for remote control cars.
The outdoor area is currently open Monday through Friday with Saturdays and Sundays reserved for corporate and family gatherings. Each Friday, local musicians are brought in to provide entertainment.
