Express Logic Sponsors Microchip PIC32 Design Challenge with HP Camera/Printer Set Prizes

HP Cameras/Printers run Express Logic’s ThreadX® RTOS.

San Diego, CA, August 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), is sponsoring the Microchip PIC32 Design Challenge. The objective of this full-year, four-phase Design Challenge is to foster a social community where contestants can build, test, and display their designs, based on the PIC32 Starter Kit, to the community. A set of three judges, as well community member peers, will vote to see who survives each phase. The contestant that makes it through the four phases and is voted the 2008 PIC32 Design Challenge's Ultimate Embedded Designer will win a high-end home theatre system (or cash equivalent) worth over $8,000. Along the way, community members themselves, in addition to judging the competition, are eligible for prizes too.

Building on Microchip's 8- and 16-bit PIC® microcontrollers, the PIC32 MCU family delivers 32-bit performance with more memory to solve increasingly complex embedded designs. The PIC32 family is supported by Microchip's MPLAB® development environment and well-known industry tools and software, including Express Logic’s ThreadX® RTOS.

In support of the PIC32 Design Challenge, Express Logic is contributing four HP Photosmart Digital Cameras and Printers that retail just under $200 each for community members who ultimately will decide the contest winner. The camera-printer combinations, which run Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS, FileX file system and PEGX graphics package, offer the ability to snap and print six megapixel photos without a PC just by docking the camera.

“The Microchip PIC32 Design Challenge is a breakthrough social networking concept highlighting some of the worlds’ best embedded systems designers as they compete by creating compelling projects based on Microchip’s new high-performance 32-bit PIC32 microcontroller,” commented William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. “We’re happy to offer prizes that incorporate Express Logic RTOS technology to community members supporting this embedded systems competition.”

“The PIC32 Design Challenge is bringing out some incredibly diverse and exciting designs. The member community has been very active in helping the contestants reach further and dream higher in their quest to win the challenge,” said Terry West, Microchip’s PIC32 Marketing Manager. “We’re delighted that ExpressLogic recognizes the community’s value through these generous prizes.”

The Microchip PIC32 Design Challenge is now in Phase II and culminates at Embedded Systems Conference 2009 in San Jose, CA. For more information about the PIC32 Design Challenge, visit: http://www.mypic32.com/web/guest/home.
