)-- The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) today announced that one of its players, Nicole Gervais, was selected to serve on the 2008 Senior Rankings Committee for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The NSCAA conducts the most widely recognized national and regional soccer ranking system in the country as a service to the general public and its members. The intent of the rankings program is to stimulate greater interest in men's and women's soccer at the intercollegiate and interscholastic levels and to recognize those programs that are enjoying remarkable success on a regional and national level.
A former college standout at Principia College (St. Louis, MO.), Nicole began playing for the Hermosa Beach Soccer Club’s men’s Open Division team in 2002. In 2005 she was a founding member HBSC’s women’s team.
Nicole, a Palos Verdes native, is in her second year as head coach of the Whittier College women's soccer team. Prior to taking over the Whittier College women’s team, Nicole spent five seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, where she played from 1997 to 2001. While at Prinipia, Nicole amassed a phenomenal 137-62-6 record in her nine years as a player and coach.
As a player, Gervais is the all-time leading scorer in Principia history netting 84 goals with 54 assists for 222 total points. She was a 3-time SLIAC Player of the Year and 2-time NSCAA regional team selection at Principia. In 2004, during her 3rd year as an assistant coach, Principia earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school's history. Nicole was elected to the SLIAC Hall of Fame in February 2007. Nicole also holds records for most goals scored in a career, most assists in a career, most points by a freshman and most points in a conference match.
Before Principia, Nicole coached and assisted the Bishop Montgomery girl’s high school soccer team, served as a trainer for the U-19 Palos Verdes Breakers and head coach of the Palos Verdes School District’s girl's junior high school soccer team.
Nicole has earned a Master's degree from the United States Sports Academy, is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds the NSCAA National Diploma. Nicole continues to compete on HBSC’s Women’s Premier Team.
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
