Mercutio: The King of Cats Receives Top Honors at Worldfest 2006
Mercutio: The King of Cats, scribed by local San Diegan Christophver R, has received the Silve Remi Award for dramatic adaptation in the screenplay category at the WorldFest International Film Festival. Mercutio, the property of Fair Verona Films, is entertaining interest from major Hollywood studios for a co-production deal to produce the screenplay as a major theatrical release.

The WorldFest International Film Festival has announced that Fair Verona Films, Alan Ames and Associates and their client Mr. Christophver R of San Diego, California have received the Silver Remi Award for dramatic adaptation in the Screenplay competition for Mr. R’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet entitled, “MERCUTIO – THE KING OF CATS.” This is the second major award for Mr. R.
Mr. R, a long time resident of San Diego had his World Premiere of a staged reader’s theatre presentation of his stage play at the San Diego Repertory’s Lyceum Theatre in late April of last year. The stage play was then adapted into a screenplay at the request of several individuals in the Hollywood film industry.
Alan Ames and Associates has announced that they will be mounting the stage play production at a major theatre in late 2006 or 2007 prior to commencing production on the film.
Mr. R is the founder of Indian Magique, an improvisational comedy theatre company which originated in San Diego and later performed at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles as well as appearing in various television series in the 1980’s.
Indian Magique became the foundation for the current San Diego Repertory Theatre Company, holding claim to Whoopi Goldberg’s first live theatre performances prior to her one woman show which took Broadway by storm launching her film career.
Mr. R currently resides in San Diego where he produces and directs at various local theatre companies. “I am pleased and pleasantly surprised at the attention currently being focused on “MERCUTIO – THE KING OF CATS”, and look forward to it being realized on the silver screen in the near future” Mr. R said at a recent press conference.
