New Rollex Flashings Speed Fiber Cement Siding Jobs

Elk Grove Village, IL, September 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Metal products specialist Rollex Corporation has launched a line of pre-formed aluminum flashing components expressly designed to simplify and ensure the proper installation of fiber-cement siding while enhancing the appearance of the finished job.

Rollex is offering the factory-fabricated, pre-finished flashings in seven of the most popular colors used by the world’s leading manufacturer of fiber cement siding.

The exact-match colors are Arctic White, Cobblestone, Khaki Brown, Monterey Taupe, Navajo Beige, Sail Cloth, and Woodstock Brown.

The three new flashings are intended to help installers meet the newest fiber-cement siding installation requirements, safeguarding the product warranty while ensuring a weather-tight and aesthetically pleasing installation.

An industry first, Rollex’s unique new Roof-to-Wall Flashing helps siding installers maintain the required 2-inch minimum clearance between the bottom course of fiber cement siding and trim and an adjoining roof, stairway, sidewalk, deck, or driveway. The siding and its backer board rest atop a “shelf” in the flashing. In a roof-to-wall application — where a dormer meets the roof, for example — the product also serves as counter-flashing that covers the vertical flanges of the roof’s shiny step flashing pieces and also conceals the house wrap. The flashing has a smooth, curved lip along the bottom edge, angled slightly outward where it meets the roof, to protect shingles from sharp edges and efficiently shed rainwater.

The Roof-to-Wall Flashing is made of 0.024-inch thick aluminum and is shipped in 10-foot lengths, 10 pieces per carton.

Rollex’s new Drip Cap for fiber cement siding jobs fits atop one-inch-wide trim placed above windows, doors, and decorative band boards. Made of 0.019-inch aluminum, it’s shipped in 10-foot lengths, 25 pieces per carton.

Rollex’s new Z Wall Flashing is a horizontal flashing used between the upper and lower panels of 4-foot by 8-foot vertical fiber cement siding, typically in two-story applications. It’s made of 0.019-inch aluminum and is shipped in 10-foot lengths, 25 pieces per carton.

All flashings are double coated, front and back, with an Environ® acrylic finish that resists scuffing and fading. The two-coat finish is an environmentally friendly combination of highly durable resin and pigment technology in a waterborne coating that’s low in volatile organic compounds (“low-VOC”), making it a “green” alternative to other coatings.

Rollex says the new flashing products, in the seven custom color-matched formulations, were designed with the input of fiber cement siding contractors and building materials distributors.

“Without these new Rollex flashings, installers are left on their own to buy, bend, and then paint bare metal coil stock on the job site in hopes of getting a close color match, which introduces a host of potential problems for builder and homeowner alike,” says Joe Rea, a Rollex sales executive who spearheaded the new product’s development. “Or, they'll buy pre-finished flashing in generic white, brown, or bronze that doesn't match the siding.” Rea says some installers have been known to overlook flashing requirements and use caulk instead – a warranty-voiding violation.

“With the new Rollex flashings, installers will have everything they need to complete the siding job quickly, professionally, and attractively,” Rea says. “The result is a beautifully detailed job that the builder, installer, and homeowner can all be proud of.”
