Nash Construction Builds First EarthCraft™ Certified Green Home in Fauquier County

Marshall, VA, October 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Nash Construction is proud to announce that it has completed construction on a home in Delaplane, Virginia that is the first home in Fauquier County to receive green building certification from EarthCraft.

EarthCraft provides a certification process for single family and multifamily projects and is the highest residential green-building standard endorsed by the Virginia Sustainable Building Network. It serves as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. EarthCraft certified homes have higher energy efficiency and indoor air quality standards, cost less to maintain and are more durable than standard constructed homes. The EarthCraft House Program began as a partnership between Southface Energy Institute and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association in 1999 and became a state wide program in Virginia in 2005.

For a home to be certified as EarthCraft, the builder must submit a work sheet, follow a point system and allow inspection for EarthCraft certification once the building is complete.

Resource conservation, air sealing measures, water conservation measures and other energy-efficient designs all are given points that, when added up, can give a home the EarthCraft certification. The energy modeling (the HERS rating) indicated that this house should use only 47% of the energy of a comparable house built to code.

EarthCraft is endorsed by the Homebuilders Association of Virginia and is being widely used throughout the Southeast.
