Apress Acquires Rights to Best-Selling SpiderWorks Books

Berkeley, CA, October 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- IT Professional book publisher Apress, Inc., today announces the acquisition of the rights to best-selling titles Learn C on the Macintosh and Learn Objective-C on the Macintosh from SpiderWorks, LLC. The deal will see author and SpiderWorks CEO Dave Mark reshaping the acquired titles to become part of a fresh, new-look Mac development book series for Apress.

As well as the two SpiderWorks best-sellers, Apress has also acquired a currently-in-development title that will publish as Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK.

These books, together with other forthcoming titles, will allow developers to quickly and efficiently learn how to create both native desktop Mac applications and native iPhone applications using the latest Xcode tools and Apple SDKs.

“The demand for high-quality Mac development books keeps growing,” says Dominic Shakeshaft, Apress Editorial Director and Associate Publisher, “and we at Apress are delighted to be able to draw on SpiderWorks’ lineup of well-know, expert Mac authors to meet this demand. Their commitment to Mac programming over the years will ensure that our own Mac development series gets off to the best possible start.”

SpiderWorks CEO Dave Mark says, “As programmers ourselves, we’ve been longtime fans of Apress. Like us, Apress publishes books for developers by developers, a core value that we believe is very important to Mac users. That’s why we see this acquisition as the perfect evolution for these books. In the good hands of Apress, these newly updated titles will be available to a much broader audience than SpiderWorks was able to reach.”

The first of the acquired titles to publish will be Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the SDK (ISBN-13: 978-1-4302-1626-1) on November 24, followed by Learn Objective-C on the Mac (ISBN-13: 978-1-4302-1809-8) on December 15, and Learn C on the Mac (ISBN-13: 978-1-4302-1815-9) on December 29.
