"A Great Show of Character: The Type Directors Club Exhibit 2008" Opens November 4 in The Art Institute of Atlanta Gallery

"A Great Show of Character" showcases graphic design pieces that have used typography in innovative ways as well as advances in typeface design. A reception is scheduled for Friday, November 21 with guest speaker Ilene Strizver, founder of The Type Studio.

Atlanta, GA, October 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- “A Great Show of Character: The Type Directors Club Exhibit 2008” opens November 4 in The Art Institute of Atlanta Gallery. The exhibit showcases graphic design pieces that have used typography in innovative ways as well as advances in typeface design. A Visiting Artists Lecture Lunch ‘n’ Learn is scheduled for Friday, November 21 at 12 pm with Ilene Strizver, founder of The Type Studio, a design firm that specializes in all aspects of typography and visual communications.

The “Great Show of Character” exhibit features the winning selections from this year’s annual competitions, TDC 54, which highlights works of typography in posters, books, media, and stationary; and TDC2 2008, which highlights the works of typeface design in text, display, and type systems. All the winning entries from these two competitions will be published in Typography 29, the annual of the Type Directors Club.

Founded in 1946, the Type Directors Club is an international organization for people who are devoted to excellence in typography, both in print and on screen. Today, the Type Directors Club is involved in all contemporary areas of typography and design, and welcomes graphic designers, art directors, editors, multimedia professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and anyone who works with type, especially professionals in advertising, communications, education, marketing, and publishing.

The Type Directors Club exhibit will be on display through December 14. The Art Institute of Atlanta Gallery is located at 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, 100 Embassy Row, Atlanta, GA 30328.
