A rare and important letter written by a Georgia plantation slave in 1854. It was, in fact, illegal in Georgia and in most other Southern states, to teach a slave to read and write: only a handful of letters written by plantation slaves exist. $30,000-$40,000.

Original signed and inscribed drawings of Marc Chagall & Joan Miro. With two original lithographs by George Braque & Alberto Giacometti, and four lithographs after Marc Chagall [inscribed], Raoul Ubac, Joan Miro, and Pierre Tal Coat [inscribed]. $12,000-$15,000.

While perhaps best known for his poetry, E.E. Cummings had a long and distinguished career as a visual artist beginning at a young age. His mature paintings include portraits and landscapes, particularly of scenes in New York City and New Hampshire. Over a dozen watercolors and oils are included in this sale. $2,000-$15,000

Large sculpture by Pietro Consagra, one of Italy's leading postwar sculptors. Working primarily in metal, and later in marble and wood, his thin, roughly carved reliefs, began to be collected by Peggy Guggenheim and other important patrons of the arts. $80,000-$120,000

Also included in this auction are a pair of Two similar Chinese Huanghuali Horseshoeback Armchairs from the 17th Century ($8,000-$12,000 each) as well as a 1920’s Platinum Art Deco Brooch with sapphire, diamond and pearl ($4,000-$5,000).
