Gallery KH in Chicago Presents Henry Coe: Plein Air Perspective

Renowned Plein Air Landscape Artist to Have Solo Show in Chicago.

Chicago, IL, November 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Gallery KH is proud to showcase Henry Coe: Plein Air Perspective. Henry Coe’s use of light and the subtlety of color contrasts create a multifaceted exploration of the traditional landscape. The exhibition runs from November 21 to January 2, 2009 with an opening cocktail reception scheduled on Friday, November 21, 5-8PM.

It was on the eastern shores of Maryland that Henry Coe first became interested in exploring the relationship of natural and man made environments. In his work Coe tries to capture the rural environment before it disappears and also record those areas where man’s presence hasn’t yet been felt. His composition and use of perspective echo the grandeur and monumentality of nature and the time-honored practice of plein air painting.

“I work directly from the site rather than from photographs. I execute oil sketches and paintings outdoors, making small adjustments when I return to the studio. It’s a challenge to work outdoors where the landscape, through the play of light, is constantly changing. On location I have to make decisions about the picture instantaneously. My ideal is to have a painting that, to the eye, can jump back and forth from an abstract work to a real landscape.” –Henry Coe
