“Healthcare & Insurance: Thinking Outside the Box” - Presentation for Small Businesses Nearly Packed to Standing Room Only

Northern Virginia-area small businesses filled room to hear “Healthcare & Insurance: Thinking Outside the Box,” a roundtable discussion presenting solutions for saving the businesses money on the continually rising healthcare costs. The discussion featured Dr. Alan Dappen, founder of doctokr Family Medicine, a pay-for-service medical practice and Mr. Will Pierce, a 20-year veteran of the insurance industry.

Chantilly, VA, November 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Over thirty people representing area small businesses jammed into the conference room at the Dulles Chamber of Commerce offices to hear “Healthcare & Insurance: Thinking Outside the Box,” a roundtable discussion sponsored by Western Fairfax Group of The Networking Community, that presented solutions for saving the businesses money on the continually rising healthcare costs that are often threatening their very existence in the ever-tightening economy. The sixty-minute presentation featured Dr. Alan Dappen, founder of doctokr Family Medicine, and Mr. Will Pierce, a twenty-year veteran of the health insurance industry.

Dr. Dappen opened the talk offering an overview of doctokr, a private pay medical practice based on time-based fees for medical service, that stresses quality of care and patient convenience. “The doctokr name is not a misspelling, but is a phonetic pronunciation of Doc-Talker, where the doctor talks directly to you the patient,” Dappen said with a laugh. “The practice is designed with the patient in mind, and a member of our medical team will pick up the phone and talk to our patients directly, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” Dappen went on to explain how the round-the-clock availability of the doctokr medical team by phone or in the office can solve not only the vast majority of day-to-day primary care health issues, but over 80% of those problems that end up in the ER. “The time-based fees make healthcare affordable,” Dappen added, “with a typical patient needing little more than $300 per year for primary care and urgent care, often eliminating the need of an ER visit.”

Mr. Pierce walked the group through the acronym-laden landscape of healthcare benefit options, defining and explaining the differences between HDHPs (high deductible healthcare plans), HSAs (health savings accounts), FSAs (flexible spending accounts) and catastrophic insurance. “Many businesses don’t realize it, but there are a wide range of healthcare benefit vehicles available beyond traditional PPOs and HMOs,” Pierce explained to the group, “choosing the right one depends on your business and your budget.” Pierce also demonstrated how HDHPs/HSAs, FSAs, and catastrophic insurance could be paired with a private-pay primary care doctor’s model like doctokr to offer a business considerable savings on healthcare without sacrificing the quality of care.

Michelle Henry, Leader for the Western Fairfax Group of The Networking Community and owner of EstatePro, a home inspection services company, is an active member of the area small business community, masterminded the event. “I’m a long-time patient of doctokr, and wanted to share with my fellow small business colleagues how a fee for service medical practice with transparent pricing can help put them back in control of the healthcare experience.”

Similar roundtable discussions are planned for the future.
