Hermosa Beach Soccer Club Players Selected to LAWSG Management Team

Hermosa Beach, CA, December 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) today announced that four of its players have been selected to the 2009 L.A. Watts Summer Games Soccer Tournament Management Team. Since 1968, the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce (www.lajcc.org) has hosted the Games (www.lawsg.org) in an effort to bring together high school youth from diverse backgrounds. The Games were born out of the aftermath of the 1965 Watts Riots. The L.A. Watts Summer Games is the largest tournament in the country with over 7,000 high school athletes participating in 18 sports.

“We are thrilled that four of the five Management Team seats are filled by HBSC players. Our club works very hard on and off the field. From our Kicks for Kids program to our scholarship program to the L.A. Watts Summer Games, the Hermosa Beach Soccer Club consistently fulfills its mission to be An excellent competitor and an excellent community citizen,” said Jesse Torres, HBSC Founder and Chairman.

"The L.A. Watts Summer Games has had a positive influence on youth for over 40 years. HBSC is proud that its players have chosen to play a leadership role in the soccer tournament. So deep is the Club’s support that many more HBSC players will volunteer their time during the tournament, fulfilling their commitment to the Club’s call to duty," said HBSC President Brian Dragich.

The four HBSC players on the 2009 L.A. Watts Summer Games Soccer Tournament Management Team include Jesse Torres (Chairman and HBSC Over-40 team), Joe Cartlidge (Vice-Chair and HBSC Premier team), Patrick Moriarity (Vice-Chair and HBSC Over-30 team) and Miranda Acevedo (Vice-Chair and Women’s Premier team).

The mission of the L.A. Watts Summer Games is to build bridges of understanding among high school youth. The Games strive to promote positive interaction, respect and achievement through spirited competition in athletics.
