)-- Sonoma Coast-based winery Keller Estate is proud to welcome Ross Cobb, who will become the new Keller Estate winemaker on December 1st, 2008. A graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, Ross Cobb has been making wines since 1989 and is a self-confessed Pinot Noir fanatic.
Keller Estate produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Pinot Gris from their estate property in The Petaluma Gap area. The diversity of the vineyard both in soil profiles, exposure, and age is part of the carefully constructed vineyard diversity that Keller Estate seeks. “When the opportunity arose to work at Keller Estate, I thought, this would be a dream,” says Ross. “To work with their incredible vineyards and make wine -- this is perfect.”
Before joining Keller Estate, Ross Cobb worked at Flowers Winery, also a Sonoma Coast winery, for eight years. He also added to his winemaking skills at Williams-Selyem Winery and Ferrari-Carano. Ross´s passion for Pinot Noir has literally taken over his vacation time, as he loves to travel to Burgundy and other notable winemaking regions to search for new ideas to continually inspire him.
A creative soul and musician, Ross explained what it is that he loves about the craft of winemaking. “My favorite part of working in winemaking is the combination of working with my hands and being able to use my skills as an artist,” says Ross. “I love the creativity and like working with the sensory and the tactile in winemaking.”
Ana Keller, director at Keller Estate, also expressed how excited she and the rest of the Keller family were in welcoming Ross. She was particularly smitten with the wines Ross and his father, David Cobb, have been making in their private label, Cobb Wines.
“When my father tasted the Cobb wines, he and I both fell in love with the subtlety and elegance portrayed in the wines,” says Ana Keller. “We are truly excited to work with Ross here at Keller Estate.”
