Scottsdale, AZ, December 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Local Phoenix personal trainer and fat loss expert Curtis Hoekstra, is the founder of the popular Arizona Fitness Boot Camp, the valley’s premier express fitness camp for busy men and women. He is currently helping area residents fight typical holiday season weight gain that so many experience during this busy and stressful time of year.

It’s a given that the holiday season is loaded with hustle and bustle. But don’t let your busy schedule become an excuse to ignore your personal fitness and pack on dreaded holiday pounds. According to Hoekstra, it would be a huge mistake to put your precious lean muscle tissue at risk now. Whether you are just starting a new fitness program or you’ve been working at it all year, protecting your muscle tissue is paramount. He claims: “Losing muscles tissue will decrease your resting metabolic rate, which solely accounts for close to 75% of your total calorie burning during the course of a day. This means you’ll be burning less calories, slowing your metabolism and bulking up on unwanted body fat soon rather than later.”

Hoekstra offers these four quick fit tips to keep you motivated and fat-free heading into 2009:

1.) Perform at least one intense strength training session per week

It has been proven that even One intense, well structured total body workout per week is an effective way to maintain current fitness levels when you can’t exercise during really busy times (like the holiday season). So, to best maintain your strength and lean muscle mass, shoot for at least one, concentrated strength training workout during the week to keep strong and prevent unwanted fat from catching up.

2.) Score the magic numbers

Take little chunks of time during the course of the day to squeeze in some simple exercises that effective work your entire body (e.g. 5 squats, 5 pushups, 5 jumping jacks). Using this strategy, because racking up your exercise totals throughout the day will have a similar effect as if you had done them all at once.

3.) Get off the machines

Machines can be blamed for laziness. Escalators and elevators, et al, are guilty of doing jobs most of us should be using our own body strength to do. This month, make a concentrated effort to move your feet, take the stairs or simply park at the end of the isle instead of driving back and forth looking for the closest spot to the mall entrance.

4.) Get outside and get moving with fun holiday activities

Head up north for a snowball fight, play some football in the backyard or just grab the kids and head to the park. Point is to shut off the TV, get out of the mall, get moving with a purpose and have some outdoor fun.
