Beach Soccer Club Partners with City of Santa Cruz to Create Beach Soccer Academy

Santa Cruz, CA, January 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Club and the City of Santa Cruz Department of Parks and Recreation today announced a partnership that will bring a beach soccer academy to Santa Cruz in the spring of 2009. Beach soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. While soccer has been played informally on beaches all over the world for decades, the modern rules beach soccer were implemented in 1992 and promoters began organizing professional events across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Events like the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup are now televised worldwide on ESPN, Fox Sports and Eurosport.

Beach soccer can be played recreationally and is also excellent training for competitive soccer players looking to improve their speed, strength and technique. “Santa Cruz and beach soccer are a perfect fit,” says Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Club founder and US Beach Soccer National Team player Yuri Morales, “We are excited to present a fun and dynamic way to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Santa Cruz.”

The spring 2009 session of Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Academy begins April 18th and finishes May 23rd with classes held once a week on Saturday mornings. There is no class on May 2 because members of the coaching staff may be participating in the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Online registration begins January 10th through the City of Santa Cruz Department of Parks and Recreation.
