Columbia, SC, January 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Members of this year's Ultimate Black Belt Test, along with past alumni, will be traveling to Greensboro, AL, March 25-29, to participate in the rebuilding of an historic schoolhouse.

Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor of Samurai Karate Studio, a martial art's school located in Columbia northeast, is a member of this year's UBBT team and will be traveling to Alabama to participate in this project.

The UBBT, is a 13 month master teacher/instructor training program that consists of over 20 physical, spiritual and emotional requirements, designed to expand and stretch the thinking of today's martial art's school owners. This is just one of the many community service projects that team members participate in throughout the year.

"There are several reasons we go to Greensboro, AL," stated Feldt. "Greensboro is one of the poorest regions in America and is known as the Black Belt of our country. This year we will be rebuilding an historic school house, that was built to teach African American children at a time when they were not allowed into regular public schools."

During the 4 day project, team members will participate in the remodeling of this historic school as well as provide martial art's demonstrations in the community, participate in a clean up project and help mentor local school children in the area.

"This is team Coach Tom Callos's version of a martial arts convention," commented Feldt. "He believes we should come together as a group and share ideas, while taking action at the same time and doing good for a community that warmly embraces us."

The school house that this year's team will be remodeling, is a Rosenwald School, The Rosenwald School Building Program has been called the "most influential philanthropic force that came to the aid of Negroes at that time."

It began in 1912 when Booker T. Washington approached Julius Rosenwald, President of Sears, Roebuck and Company, with an idea for a pilot program that was to have a dramatic impact on the face of the rural South.

Washington's idea eventually led to the creation of the Julius Rosenwald Foundation. This foundation provided seed grants for the construction of more than 5,300 buildings in 15 states, including schools, shops, and teachers' houses which were built by and for African Americans.

"My school is in the process of trying to raise funds to help offset the cost of this remodel," commented Feldt. "We would gladly accept any size donation to help contribute to our project."
