French Art Exhibit Ripe with History

“Charting a Century of Change: French Nineteenth Century Drawings and Sculpture from the Collection of Herbert and Carol Diamond" now open.

Erie, PA, June 28, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Works by Delacriox, Cezanne, Matisse, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec and many others are now on display in the Erie Art Museum Main Floor Gallery.  The exhibit “Charting a Century of Change: French Nineteenth Century Drawings and Sculpture from the Collection of Herbert and Carol Diamond” features work from a significant period in art history where the traditional artistic values and avant-garde styles clashed.

The turbulent 19th century, which this exhibit spans, was defined in France by political and social change.  The dramatic moments including Napoleon's rise and the power struggle among the social classes are reflected in the works.

A reception for this exhibit will be held on July 14, 2006 at 8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

The Erie Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $2 for children under 12. Annex Gallery and Frame Shop Gallery exhibits are always free. The Museum’s Main Floor and Ground Floor Galleries are free to all on Wednesdays.
