Battech’s Laptop Battery Power Saving Tips – Part II

Battech's battery specialists have created the second part to their successful feature on how to maintain the power in laptop batteries for as long as possible when there is no access to a mains power source.

Whitchurch, United Kingdom, February 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Laptops are commonly used for work; business and entertainment purposes, making laptops one of the most common portable gadgets people own today. The second part of Battech’s laptop battery power saving tips contains more handy hints on how to improve the life of consumer’s laptop battery.

1. Operate in the correct temperature: Batteries usually work best at around 20°c, but as long as people use their laptop battery in temperatures between 0° to 35°c it will allow the battery to work in optimal conditions. Using a battery in conditions which are too hot, or cold can often lower the batteries performance, and have a negative effect upon the battery’s lifespan.

2. Store batteries correctly: If a laptop is not going to be in use for a month or more it is recommended for the battery to be stored separately in a clean, dry and cool place. The battery itself should also be left with about 70% charge remaining, this is because during storage the battery will perform a slow self-discharge. The self-discharge also means that batteries should not be stored for longer than 3 months as it often has a detrimental effect on the battery.

3. Higher capacity and spare batteries: Many laptops are often sold with an option to purchase a higher capacity battery, if you have the money this is a quick and convenient way to extend a laptop battery’s power.

If a laptop battery is looked after properly and the following tips are adhered to an average laptop battery should prove at least 300 full charge and discharge cycles. If a consumer has tried these tips and is still having problems with the battery time on a laptop it may be necessary for a replacement laptop battery to be purchased.
