Unicon Systems Ships New Mobile Development Platform

Award-winning Pegasus targets OEMs, Integrators and Developers with Advanced CPU, Display, Peripherals and Linux PDK.

Cupertino, CA, February 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Unicon Systems, developers of CCOTS™ mobile devices and scalable Systems-on-Display (SoD™) technology for mobile applications, today announced delivery of Pegasus, a professional mobile/embedded product development platform for OEMs, integrators and software developers.

Pegasus features a modular, customizable design. The platform integrates a dual-core ARM11 CPU with a rich complement of peripherals on a compact, open PC board, optimized for cross development of systems and applications code. Unicons Systems modular approach to design gives Pegasus phenomenal flexibility and differentiation potential for OEMs and integrators. Pegasus applications include mobile devices and stationary systems in mobile telephony, automotive, medical, display and other ubiquitous applications.

Built for Bring-up and Debugging
Unicon Systems designed and built Pegasus to meet the real-world needs of systems software developers. Pegasus minimal power usage supports “one wire” bring up, with both supply voltage and boot image carried over a single USB cable. Developers can also leverage multiple serial console ports (TTL and RS-232), Ethernet, JTAG and SD-Card slots to load boot images using the included U-Boot universal loader. After initial bring-up, developers can debug and test active systems using those same interfaces with preconfigured support for gdbserver, polled Ethernet, and IP-over-USB.

Rich, Integrated Software-Hardware Platform
The Unicon Systems Pegasus platform ships ready for installation of almost any Linux-based phone/PDA/communication package, including ACCESS Linux Platform, Google Android and a range of other commercial and community-developed mobile Linux stacks. Unicon Systems eases the chore of hardware-software integration by providing a flexible Platform Developer Kit (PDK) that includes a sample Linux kernel port and a full set of working device drivers for the broad range of integrated Pegasus peripherals.

“In designing Pegasus, we took pains to support a range of screen sizes, user interfaces and connectivity options, with a mind to supporting converged use models and Web 2.0”, noted Dimitriy Ivanov, CEO Unicon Systems. “For industrial, medical, consumer electronics and many other applications, Pegasus offers a compelling mix of technical and business advantages, providing a very short path to market at a very aggressive cost.”

Standout feature of Pegasus include

- Dual-core Samsung ARM11 chipset
- WiFi, Bluetooth and GSM wireless
- Camera for mobile/webcam applications
- Accelerometer
- Multimedia Audio/Video DSP

- NFC for electronic payment processing, and other secure wireless operations
- Advanced power management
- Available full size SD-card reader
- Additional USB host connector

Pegasus cost and low-volume purchase options make it ideal for prototyping applications for deployment on other Unicon Systems chip-on-film platforms, and is available in Systems-on-Display configurations in various sizes.

Availability
Pegasus is available as a complete Product Development Kit, consisting of the Pegasus hardware platform and an Open Source Linux software development kit. Unicon also offers Pegasus as a standard System-on-Display component for stationary applications – interactive kiosks, infotainment systems, display applications – and for mobile devices. Pegasus is sold directly through Unicon Systems sales channels. Contact Unicon Systems for pricing and detailed technical information at http://www.uniconsys.com.
