CDIA at Boston University Holds Movie Marathon

The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston showed off the work of Filmmaking students from the last four years in an all-day movie marathon.

Waltham, MA, February 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (CDIA) held its first Movie Madness Marathon on Saturday, January 31, 2009.

The event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featured the films of CDIA students from the past four years of the Filmmaking program. The primary intention of the Movie Marathon was to allow CDIA students and any others interested in filmmaking to see the best work produced at CDIA and develop their own ideas for how to improve and move forward in the filmmaking field. It was also a great networking opportunity, giving past and present students the opportunity to mingle, talk about their work and form professional and personal connections.

The day began with Filmmaking Program Director Federico Muchnik presenting student films from the first few years of the program’s existence. Muchnik spoke about the ideas and technology behind the films, and gave them context by comparing them to current popular films and styles. Some of the filmmakers also spoke about their own work. Early showcased films included Aaron Faulls’ “Still On Her Keel” (2005) and Ryan Nelsen’s “Glimpse” (2005).

As the day progressed, more recent films were shown. The afternoon’s selections included Adam Stone’s “Hobo Pool” (2008) and Jean Michel Dilone’s “1382 Days” (2009). The transition from older to newer films allowed attendees to observe the incredible evolution of filmmaking technology and significant advances in picture quality, even in such a short period of time. It also showcased the unique “CDIA look” many of the films share.

Other CDIA filmmakers whose work was honored at the Movie Marathon included Ian Ross, Jessica Saccardo, Julie Tremblay, Mike Ouellette and Ruben Calderon.
