Black Box Releases VGA Wireless Video Presentation System - Wirelessly Access Any VGA Projector from Up to 200 Feet Away

Pittsburgh, PA, February 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Black Box Corporation (NASDAQ:BBOX), an industry-leading provider of voice communications, data infrastructure, and product solutions, today announced a new 802.11b/g system that enables hundreds of wireless laptop users to access a VGA projector from hundreds of feet away.

The VGA Wireless Video Presentation System (VPS) (part # AC1130A), a network-ready, single-box device that attaches directly to any SVGA or WXGA projector, communicates with any Windows® PC with Wi-Fi® card capabilities, enabling up to 254 users to access a projector presentation wirelessly. The system is ideal for anyone who wants more conference or training room collaboration but doesn’t want to run multiple cables to and from their VGA projector.

“Everyone can wirelessly share presentations or stream video and audio from their laptop to a projector from right where they sit,” said Mario Calabro, Black Box Multimedia Products Manager. “They don’t have to get up and interrupt the presentation to swap cables in and out at the projector. The administrator just clicks on that person’s name and that person’s screen is immediately seen by everyone in the room.”

Because the VPS supports wireless connections up to 200 feet away, it is perfect for use in large rooms, auditoriums, and lecture halls where users are stationed far from a projector. “That’s a big advantage it has over similar devices on the market,” Calabro explained. “The system has a range of hundreds of feet; others communicate at 30 feet maximum, which isn’t far at all—especially if it’s in one of the larger 200-seat halls where the projector’s up in the ceiling.”

This plug-and-play system offers easy setup. The administrator simply attaches the system to the projector with a VGA cable, turns on the projector, and waits until the VPS’s log-in screen appears on the projector screen. From there,
it is just a matter of activating the integrated player software and wirelessly linking users’ laptops to the system. For security, the VPS boasts secure login features and Wi-Fi WEP protection.

The system supports both wired and wireless connections and can be attached directly to a LAN as well as the Internet. It has a built-in DHCP server and supports static IP configuration. With a DSL or cable modem plugged into its RJ-45 port, the system enables laptop users to wirelessly link to the Web—great for training a class on Web-based applications and for allowing participants to stream intranet or Internet content to a projector from their laptops.

In addition to a projector, the system can also be connected to any LCD or plasma display with a VGA port. Proprietary technology enables streaming of MPEG formats at XGA or WXGA resolutions from the user’s PC.
