Two GateWay Community College Athletes Selected in Major League Baseball Draft
Phoenix, AZ, February 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Former Geckos are first players in the GWCC baseball program to receive honor.
The GateWay Community College Athletics Program is proud to announce that two of its star baseball players were selected in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. The students, Henry Cotto and Tyler Baisley, are the first GateWay athletes to ever be drafted into the major leagues.
Cotto, 21, played as an outfielder and is to play for the Seattle Mariners in the Peoria, Arizona division this March. Until it is time to take the field, Cotto can be found working in the GateWay athletics department. In addition to baseball, he has decided to further his education at another school.
Baisley, 20, played as an infielder for the Geckos and was selected by the New York Mets. Rather than accept the draft offer, Baisley chose to finish his education at Northwestern State University in Louisiana where he plays on their successful baseball team as a NSU Devil.
