Synology® Inc. today is proud to announce that the Disk Station Manager 2.1 beta has reached 5,000 downloads in just four weeks after its release on January 5th, 2009. The new software update provides Synology beta users with mail server capability and enhanced NAS management features free of charge.

Taipei, Taiwan, February 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Discussing the achievement, Edward Lin, marketing director of Synology, said: "We've received many positive beta user messages stating their appreciation of the free DSM 2.1 beta." Comments include:

Craig from the United States wrote that the Mail Station is awesome and works great for both POP3 and web based e-mail.

Karsten from Denmark wrote in to show his gratitude for a very good product from Synology.

"The DSM 2.1 beta is the most successful firmware Synology has ever had in terms of number of user downloads and issues reported," added Lin. "This is exciting. We thank all the beta participants from around the world for their valuable feedback, comments and continuous supports, all contributing to such an amazing beta."

The Disk Station Manager 2.1 beta further utilizes AJAX technology, adds new mail server capability with 1-click installation Mail Station add-on, enhances the Synology Surveillance Station, storage management, user management, and privilege management, and adds four new languages. Once deployed, the new Disk Station Manager 2.1 will further enhance the capabilities of installed Synology Disk Station without any additional cost to users.

The beta firmware is available both at Synology's official site and its UK download site, launched in October 2008. The UK download site is served by a Synology Rack Station RS409+ that will be officially available in 2009 Q1. The successful beta proves that the new RS409+ has the ability to handle a huge number of download requests simultaneously, and let users obtain Synology's firmware with the least effort and time.
