Benefits of Bord Na Móna Puraflo® Biofilter Wastewater Treatment System

Offering wastewater treatment and water reuse systems as well as odor treatment and voc abatement for municipal, decentralized or on-site community and commercial applications.

Greensboro, NC, February 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. is demonstrating the remarkable benefits of its Puraflo® Peat Fiber Biofilter wastewater treatment solution for residential and light commercial developments at the WEFTEC 2008 Show in Chicago, Illinois. The Puraflo system is certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 40.

“The Puraflo Peat Biofilter treatment system is a natural wastewater treatment solution for on-site wastewater treatment requirements,” asserted Shane Keaney, President of Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. “Utilizing a unique biofibrous peat filter media, the Puraflo treatment system is one of the highest performing, most reliable systems on the market today. It has proven itself for over 15 years in a large number of U.S. residential and light commercial applications, as well as at sites subject to intermittent use or existing sites needing repairs or upgrades.”

The most common system applications include individual residential sites, community cluster systems, light commercial, churches, schools and subdivision developments. The Puraflo treatment system is also an excellent solution for repairs.

The greatest benefits are derived from the reliability and simplicity of how the Puraflo system works, with no blowers or re-circulating pumps required, an important feature for any residential system. Following a septic tank containing an effluent filter the wastewater is time dosed, into the Puraflo modules. Time dosing is an important aspect of the design that protects the drain field and ensures high treatment performance, with ammonia levels of <5mg/l. For sites where no power is available a siphon system can be utilized for time-dosing.

Puraflo peat fiber has a proven longer life expectancy compared to other peat moss media, on average 15 years, due to its extremely fibrous structure and high lignin content. Media life expectancy is dependent upon multiple variables including waste strength, design flows and proper system maintenance, however, some systems have been functioning with the original peat fiber for over 20 years.

Other benefits include the ability to disperse the treated effluent directly through a gravel pad underneath the Puraflo units, the factory assembly reducing installation costs and ensuring high quality standards and the modular design of the Puraflo system allowing phasing of the construction.

The high levels of treatment and reliability ensure protection of the ground water system and surrounding environments, while the savings on electricity bills and costly maintenance visits common with other technologies can provide significant cost savings over the life of the system.
