World-Class Wines Chosen at Virginia Wine Showcase™

People’s Choice Medallions to be Awarded to Eleven Virginia Wines.

Dulles, VA, February 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Farm Wineries Council announced today that eleven Virginia wines have been awarded the best in their class by guests of the Virginia Wine Showcase. Virginia Wine Showcase guests voted for the best of 52 wines on the ballot for the Showcase "People’s Choice Award."

The red wine scorecard included Cabernets, Unique Red Varietals, Red Blends, and Red Dessert Wines. The white wine scorecard included Chardonnays, White Blends, Viogniers, Unique White Varietals and White Dessert Wines. The surprise of the show was the people’s passion for fruit wines, made with various fruits other than grapes. Fruit wines entered into the competition were so popular among the judges that a new category was added to recognize them.

Wines nominated for the award were judged on six elements of a world-class wine, including appearance, aroma, body, flavor, texture and aftertaste.

The Virginia Wine Showcase People’s Choice Award will be presented to eight Virginia wineries for the following wines:
