Teacher Publishes New Novel

Local teacher and author Michael Bennett has published a new novel, "The Bread of Teaching" (School Year 2001-2002), on lulu.com, the online market place for digital content.

Gettysburg, PA, February 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mr. Bennett worked on the book over the course of eight summers. The 458-page novel is set at a high school near Gettysburg, in the Adams County, Pennsylvania, area, and locations in Monmouth County, New Jersey, from June 2001 to June 2002.

Lori Overmoyer, a local English teacher, comments: "The novel offers a perspective on education that goes beyond the typical discussions of testing and technology. It's a genuine look at why teachers teach."

Although he started the novel prior to the September 11th attacks, the events of that day took the book in another direction. Mr. Bennett says, "As I wrote I found the book's emphasis shifting from teaching to the relationship between the protagonists and their parents. Links between generations affected the day to day business of teaching and became ingrained in the novel's backbone."

Michael Bennett is from Belmar, New Jersey. He received his B.A. from Gettysburg College and his M.A. from Shippensburg University. He has taught high school English for thirty-two years near Gettysburg, where he lives with his wife and two children.
