Club Soccer: South Coast Bayern Girls U9 Soccer Team Wins CSL/US Club California Cup

SC Bayern U9 Girls Soccer Win Again at Cal Cup in San Bernardino, CA – Third Straight Tournament Title.

Huntington Beach, CA, March 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Huntington Beach, CA-based Soccer Club South Coast Bayern added to its trophy case on Saturday, February 28 as its girls under 9 soccer team took first place in The CSL/US Club California Cup tournament held at the Soccer Complex in San Bernardino, CA. It was the team’s third straight tournament title, and third straight time South Coast Bayern defeated West Coast United’s U9 team in the finals.

After going undefeated in pool play the weekend prior, South Coast Bayern flexed its defensive muscle in both the semi-final and final matches. Anchoring the defense was center fullback Alexandra Cross; who was flanked by left fullback Madison Macias and right fullback Isabelle Larson; and backed by Kyleigh Tran in goal. The SC Bayern defensive combination worked to limit and save shots, allowing only one goal in each game. For their efforts, Larson and Macias were named co-MVPs of the tournament.

In the semi-final match of the Coast Soccer League season-ending club soccer girls U9 championships, South Coast Bayern jumped up 3-0 early in the first half and earned a 4-1 win over the ISC Strikers from Irvine, CA. Goals were scored by SC Bayern’s Emma Clark, Hannah Nosek, Rachel Shubin and Peri Rieke. Tran had seven saves in keeper; two of which were remarkable sliding saves she aggressively came out of goal to stop.

In the finals, Laguna Hills, CA-based West Coast United took the lead 1-0 in the first half off a corner kick that bounced around in front of the goal before West Coast United managed to get it by Tran. But within minutes SC Bayern answered on a set throw-in deep in West Coast United’s territory. The throw toward the goalie bounced back outside to center midfielder Carly Flores, who blasted it high over the goalie’s head and arched it just below the crossbar for the 1-1 tie. Minutes later, South coast Bayern struck again when Clark battled her way down the right side, made an inside move, and put it into the back of the net for a 2-1 halftime lead.

Early to start the second half Clark scored again and SC Bayern’s girls U9 soccer club held on to win the title thanks to a flurry of saves from Tran.

At the awards ceremony following the game South Coast Bayern G99 Coach Eddie Flores said, “We want to thank West Coast United for another fantastic match. Your team really brings out the best in our girls. You are a great team. You play hard, clean, and fair; and we look forward to matching up with you in the future.”
