Capstone Publishers Donates 10,000 Books to African Countries

Minneapolis, MN, March 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Capstone Publishers, the leading publisher of high-kid-appeal children’s books for school and public libraries, has made a donation of 10,000 books to Books for Africa, the world’s largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent. Books donated to the program included titles from the publishers’ imprints Capstone Press, Compass Point Books, Picture Window Books, and Stone Arch Books.

“We are thrilled to partner with Books for Africa to deliver much needed reading materials to children in Africa,” said Tom Ahern, CEO of Capstone Publishers. “It’s an honor to work with another Minnesota organization who realizes the power of literacy education and its impact on children’s lives. Literacy provides hope and a way out of poverty and we’re proud to be a part of that.”

Books for Africa is a nonprofit organization based out of St. Paul, Minn., and has shipped more than 20 million books to 44 African countries since it was founded in 1988.

“Through the generosity of companies like Capstone Publishers, many children in Africa will hold a book for the first time,” said Patrick Plonski, Executive Director of Books for Africa. “Our mission is to end the book famine in Africa. Through donations and financial support, we can help create a culture of literacy and provide the tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa.”

Capstone Publishers has a rich history of philanthropy in local communities and those abroad. In 2008 alone, the company supported more than 250 organizations’ initiatives through book donations, sponsorships, and employee volunteer time.
