Oriental, NC, March 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A new in-water boat show will be held April 17-19 at Pecan Grove Marina in Oriental featuring new and brokerage boats of all varieties as well as seminars, exhibitors and demonstrations.

The Oriental Boat Show, a charity fund-raiser, will feature area dealers presenting dozens of sail, power and paddling boats - from runabouts and kayaks to classic and new yachts - both on the water and on shore. Other marine businesses and organizations will have booths and give demonstrations while local experts speak on a range of topics - from fishing and racing to maintenance and marine history - during a full slate of seminars.

Pointing to strong attendance at recent shows in Raleigh and Charleston, show organizer Rob Lucey says he hopes boat enthusiasts will flock to the coast to enjoy a spring weekend on the water.

Along with boats for sale, the show will include:
• A visit by the replica Colonial era Periauger from Hertford, N.C.
• The historic skipjack Ada Mae from New Bern, N.C.
• Information about plans for a replica of Blackbeard's sloop.
• Tours of a local working fishing boat.
• Harbor tours, on-water kayak and small sailboat demos, and much more.

The show coincides with an Oriental Homes Tour, an art show, a farmer's market and the grand opening part for a new Small Boat Center, so there will be plenty of activities to entertain the whole family all weekend.

"Since Pecan Grove had slips available after expanding their boat basin with dozens of top-notch new docks, we thought we'd take advantage of the opportunity to showcase what Pamlico County and the Carolina coast does best - and that's boating," said Lucey, chair of Carolina Boat Show Associates, hosts for the show.

Lucey, who also publishes the bi-monthly regional boating magazine Carolina Currents, said the Oriental Boat Show is being run as a non-profit event with any profit after expenses being donated to local marine-related charities.
Besides Carolina Currents, other show sponsors include Pecan Grove Marina and Port Vandemere.

Adult admission is $5 with accompanied children under 18 free. Show hours are Friday, noon-6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit OrientalBoatShow.com for more information.

"We welcome any and all volunteers to pitch in to make this a successful event for the community," Lucey said. "We hope it provides a big boost for local marine businesses during this tough market."

Oriental, a small fishing village at the junction of the Neuse River and the Intracoastal Waterway, has been discovered in recent decades by passing cruisers who have settled in area's many marinas. With more than 2,500 boats in town and less than 900 residents, Oriental has earned the title "The Sailing Capital of North Carolina."
