AnaSpec Offers Calcein AM for Live Cell Staining

San Jose, CA, March 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- AnaSpec is pleased to offer Calcein, AM, a cell-permeant and non-fluorescent compound that is widely used for determining cell viability.

Non-fluorescent Calcein, AM in live cells is hydrolyzed by intracellular esterases into the strongly green fluorescent anion calcein, and is retained in the cytoplasm of live cells. The excitation and emission wavelengths of calcein are 495 nm and 516 nm, respectively. Amongst other reagents, including BCECF, AM and Carboxy-fluorescein diacetate, Calcein, AM is the most suitable indicator for staining viable cells due to its low cytotoxicity. Calcein does not affect any cellular functions such as proliferation or chemotaxis of lymophocyte.
