The Idea Miners: The Lost Lake Dig by P. W. Cross Released

Appalachian House book publisher announced today the release of a new book titled The Idea Miners: The Lost Lake Dig by P. W. Cross. The book is a 288 page fantasy for children ages 9 through 12.

Boiling Springs, PA, March 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Idea Miners: The Lost Lake Dig is the first book in the Idea Miners trilogy and the debut children’s book for Mr. Cross.

“My goal in writing the book,” says Cross, “was first and foremost to create an exciting adventure story. But I wanted to do more. I wanted the story to have a subtle underlying educational element, and I believe I’ve succeeded. There is an educational current winding it’s way through the book--as I envisioned--but what’s out front, in the reader’s face if you will, is a nail-biting fantasy adventure with a stunning ending. My hope is that the reader not only comes away from the book with a racing heart, but also a keen awareness of the unique gift and power of the human intellect.”

The book is set in 1750--although the year has little impact on the story. The protagonist, Joey, lives on an isolated farm. He’s in the midst of a hot, miserable summer. His only friend, Ben, has moved away, and his pa is pressuring him to do more on the farm.

Feeling sorry for himself, Joey steals away to the Hole--a deep pool in the stream behind his house--where he is confronted by a strange man. The man gives him two glowing balls, and tells him to give one to his pa. The balls are magical, and spur Joey’s pa to remember a forgotten childhood memory where children are challenged to help in another world. The other world is called the Land of Lights, and is the origin of all ideas. The strange man has selected Joey to help in this parallel world.

Joey travels to the Land of Lights and finds Ben waiting for him. Together, they join an expedition to retrieve a “gusher”--a buoyant, glowing sphere that holds an as-yet unthought-of brilliant idea. With a crack team of finders, diggers, seers, and winders, they face bloodthirsty trolls, an insane miner, and unrelenting hardships on their quest.

The Idea Miners: The Lost Lake Dig is available through bookstores, online at Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com, and at the book’s website, TheIdeaMiners.com. The suggested retail price is $7.99.
