Vision Direct - Announces the Sponsorship of Go-West's Race Across the Indian Ocean

Go West, a team of four Western Australians will row across the Indian Ocean racing against 23 other international crews. The team will raise funds for Surf Life Saving Western Australia, their chosen charity. Vision Direct is proud to announce sponsorship of the team and has provided a sports range of designer sunglasses to aid them in their challenge.

Sydney, Australia, March 26, 2009 --( Vision Direct sponsors “Go West,” a team of four Western Australian men competing in the world’s first and toughest rowing race across the Indian Ocean.

“Go West” are one out of the 24 international crews taking on the Woodvale challenge to row across approximately 6,000km of Indian Ocean. The race will start on 19th April 2009 in Geraldton, Western Australia and will end in Mauritius. The team from Perth comprises of Andrew Taylor, Pete Tomic, David Louw and Matt Hort. They are the only Western Australians participating in the race.

The four men actively volunteer as surf lifesavers, and have plans to raise awareness and money for Surf Life Saving Western Australia activities. So far, there have been 11 attempts to cross the Indian Ocean, of which only 4 have been successful. Woodvale estimates it will take 60 days for four-man teams to complete the race but “Go West” is confident they will reach the finishing line within 45 days.

The Vision Direct logo can be seen across the team’s Woodvale Fours class boat, built in precision to tackle the rough conditions in the North Atlantic, and will confidently take on the unpredictable waters of the Indian Ocean.
