New Venture to Bring Quality Moldovan Wines to UK Wine Lovers
A new company has been launched whose sole aim is to bring superior Moldovan wine to the UK. The company believes that until now the UK has only been in receipt of the below standard, younger wines and looks forward to revealing the true riches of this former Soviet State.
London, United Kingdom, March 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Imperia UK was formed by Tomas Lankutis who was shocked by the poor standard of Moldovan wine available in this country. Frustrated, he went straight to the top Moldovan wine producers and negotiated exclusive contracts to deliver their wines into the UK.
Moldova has a rich history of expert wine production; the inhabitants of the territory that comprises modern Moldova have practiced the art of wine making since at least the 8th BC. It has the best potential of all former Soviet states for growing excellent quality international varieties or grape and its viticulture can be characterized as continental. Although its climate is more like that of Burgundy, its latitudes are similar to those of Bordeaux, between 46° and 48°. The southern half of the country benefits from climate and soil conditions that are favourable for wine production.
The new imports have received a warm reception; one of the first companies’s to accept delivery will be John Gordons, a wine merchant from Cheltenham. Speaking of the wines owner Gordon Duff said, "I look to offer my customers something different, a little unusual. With Moldovan wines I can recommend something new; they are decent, drinkable wines which have a fascinating history. They have been overlooked for far too long".
At present the company has a small portfolio of only the very best of what Moldova has to offer but they are constantly searching for new wines to introduce to their clients. Managing director Tomas Lankutis has been thrilled by the response he has already had from the UK wine industry, “I am delighted by the reaction we have had from the companies that we have approached. Once people have heard the fascinating history of the country and tried our fantastic wines they have been keen to pass their discovery on to their customers.”
