Accidental Rep’s "Variations on ‘A Doll’s House’" Make Work in Progress the Goal

John Strasberg's Accidental Repertory Theater presents Ibsen's "A Doll's House" in a traditional translation, and in a new version, in repertory, opening April 23, at John Strasberg Studios, 555 Eighth Avenue, NYC.

New York, NY, March 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Accidental Repertory Theater will present a series of unique evenings of, and inspired by, Henrik Ibsen, opening April 23rd. The three-year-old company will offer Ibsen’s Victorian masterpiece “A Doll’s House” in a traditional translation, and in a new adaptation by artistic director John Strasberg (tentatively titled “Playing House”). Some evenings will also feature a presentation of Emma Goldman’s lecture on “A Doll’s House.”

“I don't think that we will present the entire play, either version, in any one evening,” Strasberg said. “Of course the audience is welcome to come back another night and see the rest of the play, although it might be in another form….”

“I want to make it clear to the public that these are working sessions – work in progress, and not finished productions,” Strasberg continued. “For me, this open-ended plan is new. I'm very organized, so deciding that the season is this alive and in the moment, is … I don't know what word to use.”

“The process is at the heart of what we do,” Strasberg said. “But, we are here for the long term. I realize that, because we are a theater, none of what we do is lost when we finish presenting the work to the public. Any of what we do can be brought back in another season, refined, or redone.”

“I hope the contrasting evenings will show the public that the problems that Ibsen exposed still exist in today's world.”
