Hermosa Beach Soccer Club Clinches Consecutive League Title and Top Seed

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club clinched the South Bay Peninsula Soccer League’s Over-30 league title for a second consecutive year.

Hermosa Beach, CA, April 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) clinched the South Bay Peninsula Soccer League’s (SBPSL) Over-30 league title for a second consecutive year. With a regular season record of 18-2-1 and 93 goals scored, HBSC also received a top seed in Group B of the Champion’s Tournament and received a bye in the tournament’s first round.

The Champion’s Tournament is a seven week competition comprised of 14 Over-30 and open-age teams. HBSC has previously won the Champion’s Tournament but has never been crowned League Champion and Champion’s Tournament winner in the same season.

“We had a shot at both the league title and the Champion’s Tournament trophy in 2008,” said Jesse Torres, HBSC Club Founder and player. “We ran into some bad luck late in the tournament and failed to reach our goal. This year we are confident that come June, HBSC will hold both.”

“Our Over-30 squad is amazing! The past two seasons the HBSC Over-30s have a combined regular season record of 33-6-4 and have scored an incredible 185 goals. They won last year’s title with only four losses and three ties. This year they cut that number in half with two losses and one tie,” said Brian Dragich, HBSC President. “Their bench is incredibly deep and withstood a seven-month season that brought numerous injuries and other absences. Despite the challenges, the team did what needed to be done to win. They have definitely set the standard for the entire HBSC organization.”

At the conclusion of the Champion’s Tournament, HBSC will take a brief break before competing in several summer tournaments, including San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz.

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club extends its gratitude to its generous 2008/2009 sponsors: Del Amo Construction (DelAmoConstruction.com), Elliott/Drinkward Construction (ElliottDrinkward.com), Carillon Capital Partners (CarillonCapital.com), Coastline Steel (CoastlineSteel.com), South Bay Soccer (www.sbsoccerstore.com) and Quality Seafood (QualitySeafood.net).

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
