KCP&L Contracts Energy Software Group Ziphany LLC to Enable Its MPower Demand Response Program

KCP&L has contracted Ziphany to deploy its Demand Response Platform (ZDRP). According to the arrangement, Ziphany will provide meter data management (MDM), contract and contact tracking capabilities, Web presentation portals, event management tools, real-time notifications dashboard, custom report generation, and Performance and Settlement calculations.

Kansas City, MO, April 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- KCP&L has contracted Ziphany to deploy its Demand Response Platform (ZDRP) after its successful implementation in 2008. There are currently 500 commercial and industrial participants in the MPower peak load reduction program. According to the arrangement, Ziphany will provide meter data management (MDM), contract and contact tracking capabilities, Web presentation portals, event management tools, real-time notifications dashboard, custom report generation, and Performance and Settlement calculations through 2011.

“It’s a privilege to work with a progressive utility such as KCP&L,” said Brian Palka, Ziphany President and CEO. “The MPower program was a perfect opportunity to illustrate our platform’s ability to enable the rapid growth of a new program, and we look forward to doing more work with programs like this.” KCP&L’s MPower portfolio has grown to more than 80 MW of peaking capacity. The program provides major financial incentives for businesses who agree to reduce electric consumption at KCP&L’s request on peak electric demand days. The program also allows local businesses to play an active role in managing the region’s energy resources.

“KCP&L chose Ziphany to provide demand response administrative services because of Ziphany's demonstrated willingness to adapt to changing market conditions and customer needs in real time,” says Jason Jones, Manager of KCP&L’s Demand Response Programs. “This degree of adaptability is critical to the success of a fast-growing demand response program.”

While electric utilities throughout the country continue to run demand response pilots, KCP&L has taken action by rolling out the MPower program for commercial and industrial customers, reducing its system’s peak during critical times and the need for new fossil-fuel-based generation.
