Open Game Table: The RPG Blog Anthology Available Now

Open Game Table is a grass roots anthology of the best in RPG gaming blogs. After 6 months of work by over 50 volunteers, the book is finally available for gamers to enjoy everywhere.

Rockville, MD, April 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Open Game Table is an anthology of roleplaying game blogs assembled and published by a completely volunteer staff of over 50 RPG bloggers and gaming enthusiasts. Pre-press reviews from WIRED Magazine's Geek Dad and the fiction magazine Bards & Sages were both extremely positive. Gamers of all ages, who still enjoy table top roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, Exalted, and many others will all find this anthology to be a treasure trove of the best blogging on gaming.

Open Game Table aims to bridge the gap between the RPG blogging community and the gaming community at large. The motivation for the anthology stems from my observation that the RPG blogging community often produces material that is as good (and sometimes better) than that of major game publishing companies - but that these gems are often lost in the bitstream of the blogosphere. Relevant, thought provoking posts rarely stay on the front page of most blogs for long, let alone serve as a permanent resource for a broad range of gamers to enjoy for months or years at a time. The goal for Open Game Table is to broaden the exposure of the RPG blogging community and connect with a broader reader base by placing a physical book in hands of gamers everywhere and to help shine the proverbial light on those posts that glitter.

Open Game Table is the brain-child of Jonathan Jacobs, the principle author of the RPG blog The Core Mechanic. This project, however, would have never seen the light of day without the help of nearly 50 volunteer artists, authors, editors, and sponsors who all shared the same vision for publishing this groundbreaking anthology. In just six-short months, Open Game Table has become a reality.

The original announcement of the project was made in October, 2008. In November, nearly 150 RPG blogs were nominated for inclusion. An independent panel of 13 volunteer judges reviewed and critiqued each blog in December, and a decision on which blog posts would see print was made in early January. Since the new year, the editors of Open Game Table have been working with a team of artists to assemble the final manuscript, which is now finally available for purchase from Lulu Marketplace and Amazon.com. Within the pages of Open Game Table are 47 blog posts from 32 top-quality RPG blogs, plus a Foreword written by RPG luminary Wolfgang Baur. Packed with juicy content and over 60 illustrations, this book is Pure Gold.

The anthology chapters include a wide variety of topics for all RPGs:

Play Style
Game Play
Characters & Players;
Monsters & NPCs;
Encounters, Settings, and Locations
Adventure Design
Campaign Setting Design
Classes, Action, and Equipment
RPG History & Commentary
The RPG Toolbox.

This anthology is the result of the hard work of over 50 volunteers, authors, editors, judges, artists, and designers. A true grass roots effort; it is a tour de force of the RPG blogging universe.
