Summer Fun with Art at the Erie Art Museum

Erie, PA, April 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Imaginations will soar this summer, as the Erie Art Museum provides children of all ages lots of opportunity for artistic expression. Summer programs for children at the Museum include Art in Action, Art Camp for Kids, First Fridays and a wide range of classes beginning June 15. Activities are held throughout the summer; prices vary for each activity.

Art in Action – for kids aged 10-14
Every Tuesday afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m. children explore pieces of art on display and then make art inspired by those objects. Friendly and energetic Museum staff lead each session. Each week provides a different exhibit-inspired artistic endeavor. Cost (which includes all materials) is $3 for members and $5 for non-members each week. Contact the Museum to reserve a spot in advance. Program begins June 16 and ends Aug. 18.

Art Camp for Kids – for kids aged 7-12
During the week of June 22 to 26, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day, children explore the many facets of architecture and 3D design. They will build sculptures, create installation environments, draw designs and also have fun with music and storytelling. Education Director Kelly Armor says, “This is a great chance for kids to meet others who love art as much as they do. And, after a week in all the galleries, these kids really feel like they own the place . . . it is wonderful!” Children can participate in this weeklong event for $95. All supplies and snacks are included and participants also receive a Student Museum membership. Contact Kelly Armor or Stephanie Campbell at the Museum to register. Ask about scholarships for qualifying youth.

First Fridays – for preschoolers and parents
Museum staff lead adults and their children ages 3 to 6 years old through Museum exhibits using story, song and art making on the first Friday of every month from 10 -11 a.m. Cost is $5 per child and free for Erie Art Museum Family members. Babes in arms are welcome at no charge. Call the Museum to reserve a space.

Mid-Day Art “Make” – for people aged 4-104
Lunch on the front steps of the Museum every summer Wednesday beginning June 10 for the Museum’s Mid-Day Art Break from 12-1 p.m. Tour the galleries, have lunch, listen to live music and make a little art. Activities are different each week – try a small print, origami, clay sculpture, and more. Free family-friendly gallery tours are given at 12 & 12:30 p.m.

Classes – for all ages
Make ceramics, learn how to draw realistically, learn how to paint in watercolor or acrylics, or make your own book of cartoons. Check the Museum’s website, www.erieartmuseum.org for a complete listing. Most classes start the week of June 15.
