Houston, TX, April 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On May 1, the Green House Gallery opens its “Regeneration” exhibit, ending May 31. Highlighted pieces will include metal sculpture, unique “art jewelry,” ceramic tableware, mixed-media pieces including medical paraphernalia, and ceramic sculpture. The exhibit will run through May 31.

Luminary metal sculptor Jonatan Lopez is developing a colorful series of torsos of men and women, fashioned from small metal scraps from previous sculptures. These “experiments in expectation,” as Lopez calls the series, reflect a greater trend in the art world since artists are obliged to use what is on hand for materials, due to the economic downturn. Lopez views it as a welcome form of renewal, and an exercise in making the most out of his materials. As part of his mixed-media exploration, Lopez will also present reconstructed taxidermy sculptures.

Jewelry artisan Monique Weston will showcase new abstract earrings, made with sinuous brass guitar strings, as well as geometric pieces made with wire fencing. She continues to forge elegant neckwear from watch movements, keyholes, chandelier crystals and other eclectic materials, expressing regeneration in the act of re-purposing discarded materials.

In another reflection of regeneration, the gallery will present a new piece composed of medical materials used in IVF. The myriad medical paraphernalia used in just one month will be arranged in a sleek, concentric form, focusing on a single point, full of potential.

Miquel Correll presents unique free-form bowls, with lavishly crenellated sides, in rich glazes that would grace any table. Her new line of platters features themes of spring and growth. One playful square plate, glazed in a cheerful yellow, is adorned with a blue butterfly. Another square platter, tapered gently upward at the corners, is decorated with the imprint of fern fronds. A lively fish curves around the edge of a third round platter, in celadon green.

Lois Morton's new three-dimensional clay relief sculptures capture the same textures that appear in her whimsical collages. The carved clay compositions are mounted on canvas, and reflect Lois' love of birds and nature.

The show will also include new paintings, drawings, jewelry, photography, sculpture and collages by Mina Agah, Kristy Allmon, Joe Carrell, Miquel Correll, PA Mueller, and Helena Gijsbers van Wijk.

On Sunday, May 17, the gallery will also host an art demonstration, with artists ready to showcase their creative methods. Visitors will be encouraged to ask questions and explore the materials in the artwork.

The Green House Gallery fosters an unpretentious atmosphere, including prices that make art accessible to all, from first-time buyers to longtime collectors. Artists greet visitors and offer demonstrations, in a stately house that opens onto a bough-canopied veranda. The artists encourage questions about their materials and creative processes. As a running theme in every exhibit, the gallery continues to promote and exemplify re-purposed and recycled materials in artwork.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m-6 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, and by appointment. A reception is held every first Friday of the month.
