Michael Angelo's Pizza Brings Home Bronze from Italy

Kenton, OH, April 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Competing with his pizza team, the World Pizza Champions, Michael Shepherd of Michael Angelo's Pizza in Kenton & Rushsylvania, brought home a bronze medal from the World Pizza Championship held in Salsomaggiore, Italy April 6-8, 2009.

Michael won Bronze in the Largest Dough stretch competition by tossing 17.6oz of dough out to 94cm or 37 inches. In doing so, Michael brought his international medal count up to eight, for a total of three golds, three silvers and two bronze medals. More than any other U.S. competitor.

In addition to the bronze, the team also won two silver medals and the award for best pizza from the United States. Teammate Justin Wadstein of Kianti's Pizza & Pasta Bar in Santa Cruz, California won silver in the individual acrobatic category and competing for the first time in the bread sculpture category, the team won silver for the bread sculpture of the Statue of Liberty sculpted by team members Matt Raposelli and Petra Kralickova of Ohio University in Athens, OH. Team member Bruno DiFabio of Amore Pizza in Scarsdale, NY placed 7th overall in the "Teglia" or "Baked in a pan" category, landing him the Best Pizza from the United States award.

Michael Shepherd is owner of Michael Angelo's Pizza in Kenton and Rushsylvania, OH and a founding member of the World Pizza Champions. The World Pizza Champions are a team of independent pizzeria operators from around the country.
