New Eco-Friendly Characters Teach Little Sprouts the Fun of Celebrating Earth Day Year-Round

Idbids™ Toys Teach Children ‘Iddy Biddy’ Steps Make Big Environmental Change

Calgary, Canada, April 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Earth might seem like a big place to a small child – it would, after all, take more than 131 million steps to walk around the Equator. But a new brand of eco-friendly toys teaches children that taking just one small step each day can help them celebrate the spirit of Earth Day throughout the year, not just on the April 22 commemoration.

"Earth Day is a tremendous opportunity for children to start learning how they can play an ongoing role in keeping the Earth happy, healthy and green," says Debbie Smith, co-owner of Idbids, a line of eco-friendly toys that teach children "iddy biddy" steps they can take to protect the environment. "By using toys to show children how to adopt a few simple habits into their daily lives, they start to understand that they can protect the Earth – and they have fun, too."

The eco-friendly Idbids engage children in going green through colorful characters and simple activities that cleverly simplify a complex issue into something a child can understand, says Sarah Alvarez, co-owner of Idbids.

"Children should have fun when they try new experiences," Alvarez says, "and learning to be green is no different. The Idbids characters accompany children on their Earth-protecting adventures to approach kid-friendly conservation in a whole new way."

The first eco-friendly Idbids are Scout, Lola and Waverly, three colorful plush toys with green feet and distinct personalities. Each one is dedicated to a particular environmental element. Scout is a soft, fluffy white cloud who is knowledgeable about the air and becomes a bit cranky when he thinks about air pollution. Lola, the flower of the bunch, teaches children about trees and plants. And Waverly is a bright blue water drop who cares deeply about the oceans, seas, rivers and lakes.

Along with a storybook, field guide and an organic fabric cinch sack for the child to wear, the eco-friendly Idbids take children on a journey of discovery to learn the iddy biddy steps they can take to protect the environment, from turning off the water when they brush their teeth to picking up and disposing of trash – and remembering to wash their hands. When children finish all of the Earthsaving activities listed in the field guide, they, along with a grown-up, visit www.idbids.com to be rewarded with an Idbids Certificate of Completion.

Idbids toys are manufactured using organic, recycled or eco-friendly materials. In addition, Idbids’ packaging materials are made from environmentally friendly or recycled materials.
