Net Optics Director Provides Cost-Effective Intelligent Filtering, Network Monitoring and Security

Data Monitoring Switch Enables Network Managers to Leverage Existing Monitoring Tools to Handle More Traffic, More Links and More Protocols

Santa Clara, CA, April 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Net Optics, Inc., a leading provider of network access devices, today introduced Director, the industry’s highest port-density monitoring access solution. With TapFlow™ filtering technology, Director enables network monitoring tools to handle more traffic, more links and more protocols than ever before. Net Optics Director allows enterprise network managers to leverage their existing monitoring tools investments, critical in the current economic climate which demands maximizing today’s return on yesterday’s investment.

Maintaining network security and performance in this environment means monitoring more points in the network, for more detailed information and for different types of data. Today’s network administrators, compliance officers and security personnel are confronted by quickly increasing amounts of ever-faster multi-protocol network traffic. As a result, monitoring tools are oversubscribed and multiple groups with various responsibilities compete for use of the tools and access points. A dizzying array of monitoring tools are available to keep the network secure and running at peak performance, and to ensure that business processes comply with government regulations and corporate governance rules. Among the many challenges these professionals face is how to provide their tools with access to 100 percent of the network traffic, in a manner that is reliable, secure, and does not create conflicts between groups.

Net Optics responds to this need with Director, a new family of data monitoring switches that provide the highest-port-density access solution in the industry. Director is designed for easy deployment and management, and its filtering capabilities increase tool efficiency and tame the torrents of data traveling on today’s high-speed networks.

Director answers the need for more efficient monitoring access by enabling a pool of tools to be deployed across a large number of network links, with remote, centralized control of exactly which traffic is directed to each tool. Using browser-based or platform-based software with friendly graphical user interfaces, tools are easily and instantly moved from one link or set of links to another without unplugging and plugging cables and physically moving devices. There is no need to wait for a maintenance window or get approvals for changing the network configuration, because once Director is in place, it is completely transparent to the network. Even if power is removed from both of the unit’s redundant power supplies, the fully passive design ensures that in-line network links remain open and network traffic keeps flowing.

Bob Shaw, Net Optics president and CEO, commented, “Net Optics Director reinforces the company’s commitment to be customers' first choice for innovative network solutions. Net Optics is proud to deliver the hardware products that enable customers to monitor, troubleshoot and secure their most important investment - the network.”

Key Features and Benefits
Director provides one-to-one, many-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many mappings of network links and Span ports to monitor ports. In other words, traffic from any set of network links and Span ports can be aggregated into a single stream and copied to any one monitoring port. In addition, the same aggregated traffic stream can be copied to more than one monitoring port at the same time, enabling different groups to monitor the same data without conflicts. Multiple different aggregations and regenerations can operate simultaneously, without interfering with each other either functionally or causing slow-downs. Director aggregates, regenerates, switches and filters traffic completely at line speed, even for fully-utilized 10-Gbps ports. Director provides the following benefits:

Secure-Director has no IP address on the network and is immune to viruses, malware, and intrusions; management ports are password protected and can be isolated on a management VLAN
Passive-Maintains network reliability; does not affect network performance; does not introduce a potential point of failure in the network
Leverages existing monitoring tool investments
Relieves oversubscribed tools by filtering
Compatible with monitoring tools and intrusion detection and prevention systems from all major manufacturers
Consumes less rack space and less power than discrete access devices
Provides 100% traffic visibility

Pricing and Availability
The Net Optics Director is currently available through the company, as well as from authorized reseller partners. Pricing starts at $11,500.
