Computer Art That Really Mings

Original British artwork melds ancient Chinese design with modern technology.

London, United Kingdom, April 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Rare computer art, based on designs from the Ming Dynasty, is now available at ShopCurious.com.

“Minging Computers” is a clever combination of hand painted, historically accurate blue and white Chinoiserie and modern day computer equipment. “This is the quirky inventiveness of British art at its best,” says Susan Muncey, creator and “curator” of ShopCurious.com. The modern art piece, which retails for £1,649, is based on designs from the Ming Dynasty and created by Norfolk-based artist, Stephanie Douet. It features disused monitors, printers, CPUs and even keyboards – all lovingly covered in Stephanie’s trademark patterns, juxtaposing ancient Chinese culture against vintage and modern computing technology.

“This season, collectable ‘green’ art is blue and white,” said Muncey. “These Minging Computers remind us that even computer waste, a scourge of modern society, can be recycled and made beautiful using ancient techniques.”

Minging Placemats
In addition to Minging Computers, ShopCurious.com is also proud to feature personalized Ming style hand painted placemats. The placemats, painted in the traditional blue and white style, feature typical Ming designs of trees and flowers, but can also be illustrated with images based on customers’ unique personal photographs. Shown by way of example at ShopCurious.com, is one of Stephanie’s favourite subjects, “hoodies” on a park bench drinking beer. The amusing combination of the modern subject matter hand painted in classical style is a real conversation piece – ideal for people who want to fill their home with original stylish pieces.

The custom placemats measure 30 x 25 cm and retail for £150 for a set of six. Trendily made to order in the colours of the moment, blue and white, the reverse of these plywood curiosities is left fashionably unfinished. (Varnishing is available by request.) These unusual placemats make a truly unique gift. Digital photographs can be sent to info@ShopCurious.com. Please allow 14 days for delivery.

More about Ming
At the time of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Western World and Europe were developing scientifically much faster than China. Key advances in Chinese science were triggered by contact with Europe. Today, China is becoming a leader in technological advancement. The fusion of Ming-inspired art and modern technology reminds us how intertwined our cultures continue to be.
