Dr. Marion Thorpe Issues Statement on Swine Influenza A (H1N1) Virus

Florida’s Former Chief Medical Officer and Candidate for US Senate weighs in on Swine Flu

Miami Beach, FL, May 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In response to growing concern and fears amid the passing of the toddler in Texas due to the Swine Influenza A (H1N1) virus, Dr. Marion Thorpe, US Senate candidate in Florida, has released the following statement:

I along with all members of Team Thorpe extended heartfelt sorrow and prayers to the family members of the 23 month old who suffered a fatal outcome due to the swine influenza A (H1N1) virus. It is my hope that no such further outcomes will occur. As a Public Health specialist, I am compelled to inform Floridians and Americans that general guidelines for Swine Flu prevention should be followed until more is known about the transmission mechanism of this flu strain.

Dr. Thorpe recommends that people stay tuned to their local and national news media for further updates on prevention as well as routes of swine flu transmission. Additionally, Team Thorpe directs all Floridians and Americans to the Centers for Disease Control website for a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of disease prevention, outbreak analysis, and emergency response protocols. Thorpe offers the following suggestions for staying healthy:

As a matter of common sense and good hygiene, it is imperative to implement thorough and frequent hand-washing techniques, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as germs are spread in this manner, and be sure to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and/or sneezing.

Marion D. Thorpe, Jr. MD MPH will continue to actively monitor this monumental public health matter and will provide breaking news updates and helpful information to the American public via his website.
