On Sunday, May 17, from 12-5 pm Del Mar’s Flower Hill and the Solana Beach Art Association are proud to present the premiere Arts In Bloom artist and author artwalk. This free event, with over 40 artistes who comprise a colorful palette of home- grown talent, is paired with the unique shopping experience provided by Flower Hill’s quality merchants and fine restaurateurs.

Stroll through the Promenade and meet and greet local authors, fine artists, sculptors, photographers, jewelry artists and more. Hear about the creative process behind their work and learn how to support arts in education. Enjoy food, wine and cheese tastings, free drawings for luxury gift baskets, and an afternoon’s line up of events and activities that promise to provide fun for the whole family.

A fine art fan?
Fine artist Heather Roddy will demonstrate her colorful oil painting techniques, and mosaic artist Amber Irwin will share the magic of her cut glass design technique. Tony Peters, Wade Koniakowsky, and Carol Beth Rodriguez will present their unique colorful canvasses, Joe Chiodo acclaimed comics artist will present his latest designs, and veteran cartoonist Jim Whiting will demonstrate the skill behind his award winning work. The latest location of Morrison Hotel Gallery will debut offering a chance for fine art music photography fans to relish in the work of icons like Robert Whitaker and Timothy White.

Have creative kids?
Children can break tiles and create a colorful floral design inspired by the children’s book “The Tiny Seed”. Acclaimed artist Christie Beniston will coordinate the creation of this permanent Flower Hill mosaic tile mural. Meet students of The Children’s School in La Jolla, and hear their stories of the Great Masters’ work recreated in their own exhibition of mini masterpieces. And kids can pet the cutest pooch on the planet when they meet Baxter, the lovable therapy dog.

Book Works presents interactive author panels:

“Gardening for the Southern California Climate”, with Nan Sterman, author of California Gardener’s Guide. Sterman will describe ways to care for your low-water plants, explain today’s best irrigation and planting methods, and much, much more.

“Swimming With the Big Fish”– Fiction Panel. Journalist Barbara Davenport will moderate a discussion with three local authors: Lisa Fugard, Jincy Willet and Laurel Corona. Everyone is invited to join this fascinating discussion about negotiations with agents, dealing with big publishing houses and publicists, making a living as a writer, and more.

“Cooking With All Things Trader Joe’s” by Deana Gunn. Love Trader Joes? Then you’ll love Deana Gunn’s creative ways to create gourmet meals in minutes with this indispensable companion to a much-loved marketplace. From quinoa to capers, Marsala to Masala, tofu to turkey, Deana will share her culinary magic.

Dig dance and music?
Enjoy the timeless melodies of famed harpist Amy Lynn Kanner, and throughout the afternoon be dazzled by dance performances from Brazilian and Indian dance groups, and dance students from Canyon Crest Academy.
